Ancestral Lands
We acknowledge that the land on which we are based is un-ceded territory and the traditional ancestral homeland of the Wiyot people. As we work towards restoring the land we hold in trust, we respect and share our gratitude to the Wiyot people and Indigenous communities. We acknowledge the sacrifices and resiliency of the Wiyot people. We take this opportunity to thank and honor the original caretakers that continue to cherish and protect this land, as elders have instructed the young through generations.
While pursuing the fulfillment of our organizational mission, we commit to creating ways to support the Wiyot people in their role as ancestral land stewards.
Wiyot Honor Tax
An honor tax is a voluntary contribution that non-Indigenous people can make to support the Indeginous people whose land they live on. As JCLT works to restore and protect landscapes around Humboldt Bay and in the Jacoby Creek watershed, JCLT is committed to allocating $$$ annually to the Wiyot Honor Tax, a voluntary contribution that non-Indigenous people living on traditional Wiyot territory can make to support the Wiyot people.
